On Distant Shores by Sarah Sundin - Revell Blog Tour

Disclosure: The following post contains advertisement on the book.

Lt. Georgiana Taylor has everything she could want. A boyfriend back home, a loving family, and a challenging job as a flight nurse. But in July 1943, Georgie's cozy life gets more complicated when she meets pharmacist Sgt. John Hutchinson.
Hutch resents the lack of respect he gets as a noncommissioned serviceman and hates how the war keeps him from his fiancée. While Georgie and Hutch share a love of the starry night skies over Sicily, their lives back home are falling apart. Can they weather the hurt and betrayal? Or will the pressures of war destroy the fragile connection they've made?
With her signature attention to detail and her talent for bringing characters together, Sarah Sundin weaves an exciting tale of emotion, action, and romance that will leave you wanting more.

I received this book from Revell in exchange for my honest opinion
What did I think?
I had a little bit of a hard time getting into the book at the beginning (possibly due to the fact I did not realize this was book 2 in the series). But once I got the characters, and locations straightened out, I enjoyed the plot. Both of the characters are attempting to make a difference in their own way. They each have issues they have to work on, but are very like-able people - one an introvert and one an extrovert - and its easy to connect with them.  They both love the Lord and are faithful to their fiances back home, yet feel an unexplainable connection to each other. There are various surprises in the book that keep you wondering, as you read about their trials, fears, and spiritual growth. The book is set in WWII time period, and I for one always enjoy a slice of history in my novels. Although this book is the second book, I do believe it could stand alone. It did for me!

  1. Amy, I'm almost neurotic about reading series in order! Last week I hurriedly read the first book, "With Every Letter," so I could review this book. It really helped and I think you would enjoy it.

In case you don't know about this, the website fantasticfiction.co.uk is a great way to keep up with an author's books. Just search on the author's name and everything they've written is listed in order of publication, grouped by series. I use it almost daily.

My Body's Mine helps children learn they have the rights to their body. Told through rhyme from a child's point of view this book on boundaries empowers each child to say no when others approach them in ways that make them uncomfortable. It also gives clear instructions on what to do if they are approached in an unwanted manner. The questions at the end of the book provides an easy transition for counselors and parents to open a discussion to prevent abuse or to further explore if abuse has occurred.
