Disclosure: the following post contains some advertisement.

Eleven-year-old Lily Lapp wants her life to stay just the way it is. Instead, it's constantly changing. New jobs, new schoolmates, and new challenges sure keep life interesting. It seems like the only thing Lily really wants to change--Effie Kauffman's mischief making--is the one thing that never does. Effie is up to her old tricks, and Lily is her favorite target.
With each chapter in Lily's life comes another ever-more exciting adventure. But no one could have prepared Lily
for the biggest surprise of all! Read an Excerpt HERE.

This book is available from Baker Publishing and other online retailers.

Mary Ann grew up Amish, although she no longer is. She shares her memories of what it was like - hence some of the content for the Lily books. She blogs at http://ajoyfulchaos.blogspot.com/ where she shares her memories of growing up Amish along with many other tid-bits. I really enjoyed checking out her blog and signed up to get her posts in my inbox.

I received this book from Revell in exchange for my honest opinion. I am not required to give a positive opinion.

What did I think?
This is book #4 in the Lily Lapp Series. I also was privileged to read book #3. Click on the title to read my review of A Big Year for Lily. Lily is now 11 and as you read, you join Lily and her family on their everyday normal, but adventure filled life, as they deal with things such as the chicken pox, missing boots, annoying friends and much more. It reminds me alot of The Little House books by Laura Ingalls. I read this book with my six year old daughter and my eight year old son. It was exciting and they really enjoyed our evening readings.

This is what my kids thought:
Daughter: "I like Lily. I also liked the stories her mom told her."
Son: "I like the adventures Lily has with her friends and family. Especially, when she fell out of the boat."

Why I am drawn to this series:
  • Good clean fun for kids. I do not have to worry about my children reading anything questionable in this series
  • Family values, friends and God are top priorities in Lily's life
  • Her parents are treated with respect and good character and integrity are encouraged by reading this series
  • It is a great way to learn about the ways other people live that may be different than us - mainly the Amish.
  • They learn that even the mundane everyday life can be an adventure if you look at it from that point of view.
  • My kids were begging me to keep reading and are already looking forward to reading other Lily books.
Available August 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

Congratulations to our Winner - Lynne In  Night Night , Farm by Amy Parker, parents and little ones will unwind as sweet farm animals in pj's say goodnight to their farm, their mommies and daddies, and to God. Rhyming verse, calming artwork, and whimsical renditions of favorite farm animals in their cozy beds will make this bedtime book a favorite for years to come. My Thoughts: This book is so adorable. I am already loving that one day I will be able to use it with my grandchildren. It is a hard back padded type cover. The pages are board book style with beautiful illustrations, brightly colored and full of the most adorable farm animals you've ever seen. They will capture your heart, as well as you child's.  Each page consists of a different animal going to sleep, written in poetic style with the animal sound and name of the animal at then end of each prose. The last page affirms how God made all these animals and "me too"! The child will learn about

My Body's Mine by Kayla Marnach

My Body's Mine helps children learn they have the rights to their body. Told through rhyme from a child's point of view this book on boundaries empowers each child to say no when others approach them in ways that make them uncomfortable. It also gives clear instructions on what to do if they are approached in an unwanted manner. The questions at the end of the book provides an easy transition for counselors and parents to open a discussion to prevent abuse or to further explore if abuse has occurred.
