A Robertson Family Christmas with a GIVEAWAY

Hunter Clarke wanted one thing for Christmas: to spend it with his dad and his brother. He misses being included in any guy trips since his parents divorced and he went to live with his mom. So he’s less than happy when his mother tells him that he won a contest to spend Christmas in West Monroe, Louisiana, with a family named the Robertsons. For some reason, they’re supposed to be a big deal. How did he win a contest he didn’t enter? Besides, he’s never heard of them and sure doesn’t want to spend Christmas in a swamp with a bunch of strangers.

Korie Robertson is excited to open her heart and home to Hunter and show him what the Christmas season looks like for the Robertson family. And like it or not, Hunter experiences it firsthand. From duck-hunting disasters with the bearded guys, to learning to cook with Miss Kay, Hunter quickly discovers what it’s like to live with this boisterous, yet loving family. Putting on his headphones and ignoring them is not an option. Before long, Hunter begins to let his guard down. But with Christmas and the end of his trip fast approaching, will it be too little, too late? Or will Hunter be open to the greatest gift of all?

Available on Amazon and Tyndale and any book store

I received this book from Tyndale Blog Network in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not required to give a positive one.

My Thoughts:
This book was short and sweet. I enjoyed the story of a young man who has a somewhat troubled home life. His parents are divorced, his mom works long hours and he does not spend as much time with his father as he would like. He has some real issues to work through. Unknown to him, his mom enters him in a contest in which the winner spends Christmas with Korie and Willie, whom he has never heard of before. Needless to say, he is none too happy that he won.

Life with the Robertson's is quite different than what he is used to. These people have legitimate fun times. They enjoy life and seem to be genuinely happy. Their family memebers actually seem to get along. Hunter is not sure if they are putting on a show or if life can really be like that. Where does their happiness come from? Do they really care about each other and him? While he is there he experiences duck hunting, cooking, and much more. He also gets a taste of the family's faith.

This book kept my attention and I enjoyed the novella. They incorporated their faith in a great way and shared the plan of salvation openly as well as the real reason for celebrating Christmas. The story is also about sharing love with those who may not be blessed to experience it in a positive way. Hunter is changed by his adventure, and maybe this book will change you too.

  1. Amy, one of my favorite Christmas traditions is my daughter, Amber, and I "run the guys off" (smile) for the late afternoon/evening so we can bake and decorate several kinds of cookies! On our annual Mother & Daughter Christmas Cookie Night, we always dress up all pretty, set up the camera for a small photo shoot of us two, and I give her an early gift which is usually contains warm fuzzy socks, cooking items, 2 Christmas mugs or holiday glasses, just a few special items just for her! Then with the Christmas music in the background, candles lit and pretty decorations in the kitchen and dining room we begin sorting ingredients, getting the oven preheating and start baking, and ultimatley wind up decorating the little things til we are completely worn out from it. Tired, warm and happy, and with platters full of homemade Christmas goodies, we welcome "the boys" (hubby and son Caleb) home and love hearing their "oohs & ahhs" and watching them sample all the pretty, tasty treats! It's so special. I love my family and most of all I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for what CHRISTmas means to me in my heart! CHRIST IS BORN!!! HALLELUJAH!!! RING THE BELLS!!! (and pass the cookies)

Congratulations to our Winner - Lynne In  Night Night , Farm by Amy Parker, parents and little ones will unwind as sweet farm animals in pj's say goodnight to their farm, their mommies and daddies, and to God. Rhyming verse, calming artwork, and whimsical renditions of favorite farm animals in their cozy beds will make this bedtime book a favorite for years to come. My Thoughts: This book is so adorable. I am already loving that one day I will be able to use it with my grandchildren. It is a hard back padded type cover. The pages are board book style with beautiful illustrations, brightly colored and full of the most adorable farm animals you've ever seen. They will capture your heart, as well as you child's.  Each page consists of a different animal going to sleep, written in poetic style with the animal sound and name of the animal at then end of each prose. The last page affirms how God made all these animals and "me too"! The child will learn about

My Body's Mine helps children learn they have the rights to their body. Told through rhyme from a child's point of view this book on boundaries empowers each child to say no when others approach them in ways that make them uncomfortable. It also gives clear instructions on what to do if they are approached in an unwanted manner. The questions at the end of the book provides an easy transition for counselors and parents to open a discussion to prevent abuse or to further explore if abuse has occurred.
