Folks in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, claim that where Nikki Bryant goes, trouble is not far behind. Her refusal to back down from a challenge has made Nikki Bryant a top investigative journalist.

When an online friend nudges her to join him in a pact to reconnect with their first loves, Nikki and her boxer dog Elmo leave the bright lights of Las Vegas for the charming town of Pine Grove. There, she must face the biggest challenges in her career and life—the first love she had left behind and her father’s unsolved murder.

But before she has time to unpack her car, Nikki stumbles upon the dead body of local news anchor, Ashleigh Addison, her childhood rival. Could Ashleigh’s death be connected to an explosive news story that she had teased about airing live? Did that explosive story have anything to do with the murder of Nikki’s father?

With the clues in her father’s cold case hot again, Nikki intends to chase down the story of her life until she catches his killer—no matter what it takes.

My Take:
I really enjoyed this cozy mystery  in which the author had me totally guessing at who the culprit was. It wasn't easy to figure out! The characters were quite entertaining, my favorite being the handsome Ryan, who always seemed to have a level head on his shoulder and played the part of the male hero well.  Of course Nikki, the protagonist, was a interesting character to follow too, along with her dog who was quite popular on social media. Who knew animals had social media accounts. (I told my daughter, No! Her dog could not have a social media account. Apparently, one of her friends dogs does....) Well, that was unrelated to the review, but was something that came up at our house, after I finished reading about Elmo being so popular and increasing the popularity of local residents and businesses when they had their pictures made with him.  The dog, may have honestly been my second favorite character as he was smart enough to clean house, and do quite a few other helpful things. (Why don't our dogs do that?)

I enjoyed the plot and how the two mysteries were woven together. The author did a fantastic job of pulling the reader in and making you feel like part of the people and the town. I was really excited to have the chance to review this as an audio book. The narration was well done, and easy to listen to. I was blessed with a copy of this book courtesy of  ireadsbooktours.

My Body's Mine by Kayla Marnach

Told through rhyme from a child's point of view this book on boundaries empowers each child to say no when others approach them in ways that make them uncomfortable. It also gives clear instructions on what to do if they are approached in an unwanted manner. The questions at the end of the book provides an easy transition for counselors and parents to open a discussion to prevent abuse or to further explore if abuse has occurred.

A Challenging Perspective on Hospitality

This book! Wow! What can I say? It's radical, convicting, and pushes you to live completely out of your comfort zone for the sake of the GOSPEL! Rosaria's personal story is a story of Grace - God's grace and a life transformed by the Gospel. She inspires us to practice true hospitality like the Bible commands. She talks about the importance of hospitality, how to use hospitality to share Jesus and the Gospel, and how our lives and those of others should be changed by it. She invites us to reach out, invite in, and love people of all different backgrounds, even those who don't particularly agree with us in lifestyle or otherwise. She propels us to love the sinner, while not condoning the sin. Hospitality - open arms, open table, a welcome to all.  I wish I could put into words how this book inspired me to take a good look at my own life and how I practice hospitality. It made me re-evaluate what I might think hospitality looks like and how to apply it to real life in c

Home Made Lovely by Shannon Acheson

As I mentioned in my previous post , I am reading some books about how to make my home a place of beauty. One of those books is A Home Made Lovely by Shannon Acheson published by Bethany House. This book caught my eye when it became available for review as I am have been looking for ways to improve my home and create a more lovely space to live in.  Our home is not large or fancy as some, but I can't complain as it serves its purpose. Of course, there are times I wish for more space here, or something different there, and I can get discouraged or discontent with what God has given me. However, once I get my perspective back in place - that is - I recall, that God has provided a roof over my head, and a place to live that some would give anything for, I must Give Thanks! In-spite of the condition of my home, I am sure I can create a lovely space, because most of the beauty of a home is in the atmosphere not simply in the style or decor.  Back to the book.... This book is so beaut
