Doubts, Faith and God...

I think we all go through times in our lives where we encounter doubts about God, our faith, and the things we have been taught or believe.

In this book Faith and Other Flat Tires, Andrea Dilley shares her journey of doubt , faith, and other issues. Andrea's parents were Quaker missionaries in Kenya when she was young. Eventually, they moved back to the US but were still actively serving the Lord through ministry during her growing up years. As she got older she had a hard time really understanding God and why He allowed so much suffering in the world. When she went off to college her faith was badly shaken and in a sense she renounced her beliefs. She compares her journey to Pilgrim in Pilgrim's Progress and explains how she got off track and what brought her back again.
A deep thinker like Andrea, I thought this book would be interesting, especially since I have at times struggled with my faith and beliefs about God's goodness, all the "rules" we seem required to follow, and other things I was taught growing up in a Christian home. It wasn't exactly what I had expected , but getting perspective from another person's story, who has also searched is enlightening. In reality, mankind as a whole was created with a void- which only God can fill. Sometimes we fill it with religion or our parents beliefs, instead of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ our Savior. Personally, I am not sure a person will ever find all the answers, because if we had them all, there would be no need for faith.  So if you are searching... look to Jesus, and the Word of God for answers. Ask the Holy Spirit to give wisdom and understanding.

Isaiah 11:2
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
When we seek Him diligently, we will be rewarded.
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
