Interesing... Futuristic... Very Realistic

When I requested this book from Thomas Nelson through the Book Sneeze Program, I wasn't really sure if it was my style. I am usually not too fond of reading these futuristic, somewhat creepy kinds of books. But I was hooked from the first chapter. Even though it was a little frightening at times, I wanted to keep on reading and see what was coming next. It did not take me long at all to finish.

In this book, Logan, a twelve year old kid, is rapidly approaching his thirteenth birthday and preparing to get the mark. In this futuristic era, children become independent at the age of thirteen by receiving the mark on their wrist. After that they can work, buy things, and pretty much be on their own. Until then they are supported by their parents. Logan is very much afraid to receive the mark. His sister disappeared five years ago when she went to get her mark. The government called her a "flunkie". "Some kids," they said, "just don't make it back." Logan feels like he is being followed, watched, stalked... A new girl moves to town, and they become friends. Working together to uncover the mystery of what is happening to Logan. Who is after him? Does he get the mark? You will have to read to find out!

If you like suspense, mystery, and books that give us a clue as to what life could very well be like in the future, you will enjoy this book. I kind of thought it was along the lines of the mark talked about in Revelation, but as I read the book, alot of things just didn't really add up to exactly match Scripture in my eyes. But the concept in this book is very believable. And it kind of opens your eyes to the possibilities of the way things will be and how easily something like the mark can be accepted in our society.
