My Mom's Quilt of Memories

I am excited to be participating in an Online Quilt Show hosted by my friend Sharon's blog Hobbies on a Budget.  This is the story of a quilt I made my mom several years ago.

You can't see the pictures as well anymore, they have faded over time, but I am sure it is still serving its purpose.  It was a memory quilt. My parents, you see are missionaries and have been for the last fifteen years.
Needless to say, we do not see them often enough. Grandkids grow up and we all get older. Time passes and we cherish the memories of the times we do have together. So, I had this idea one Christmas that I wanted to make my mom a quilt with family pictures. It is more like a wall hanging. She could have the pictures right there and enjoy them as she reminisced the times we've had together. I included all my siblings and their children. I had quite forgotten about having made it, til this quilt show was mentioned.

I have attempted to make various other quilts over the years, but have not successfully completed very many of them. My youngest daughter is now expressing a desire to learn to sew, so hopefully she and I will accomplish one or two, or maybe just finish some that I have started.  I love the pattern on this one and especially the border. Does anyone know what this pattern is called? I cannot remember since it has been so long ago.
