Ring of Secrets by Roseanna White - Review

This exciting romantic spy novel from Roseanna M. White combines fascinating cloak-and-dagger secrets with a tale of love and intrigue during the Revolutionary War.
Winter Reeves is an aristocratic Patriot forced to hide her heart amid the Loyalists of the City of New York. She has learned to keep her ears open so she can pass information on British movements to Robbie Townsend, her childhood friend, and his spy ring. If she's caught, if she's hung for espionage…well, she won't be. Robbie has taught her the tools of the trade: the wonders of invisible ink, drop locations and, most importantly, a good cover.

Bennet Lane returns to New York from his Yale professorship with one goal: to find General Washington’s spy hidden among the ranks of the elite. Searching for a wife was supposed to be nothing more than a convenient cover story for his mission, but when he meets Winter, with her too-intelligent eyes in her too-blank face, he finds a mystery that can’t be ignored.
Both believers…and both committed to a separate cause. Will their faith in God lead them to a shared destiny or lives lived apart?

About the Author:
This is what the author has to say about the Culper Ring Series:
"What I love about the Culper Ring is that they weren’t specially-trained spies. No James Bonds or Jason Bournes. No action heroes with razor-sharp instincts. They were just people like you and me. People who changed the world by actively looking for a way to help their neighbors, their compatriots, their country."
Roseanna M. White grew up in the mountains of West Virginia, the beauty of which inspired her to begin writing as soon as she learned to pair subjects with verbs. She spent her middle and high school days penning novels in class, and her love of books took her to a school renowned for them. After graduating from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, she and her husband moved back to the Maryland side of the same mountains they equate with home.
Roseanna is the author of two biblical novels, A Stray Drop of Blood and Jewel of Persia, and the historical romance, Love Finds You in Annapolis, Maryland. Coming in 2013 is a suspenseful historical romance from Harvest House, Ring of Secrets, the first in the Culper Ring trilogy. She is also the senior reviewer at the Christian Review of Books, which she and her husband founded.

My Thoughts:
This book kept me interested from start to finish. Although, I have to say, it gets better as you go. Great plot, characters, and adventure filled; this author did a great job of depicting the Era of the Revolutionary War. It included real life characters along with fictional ones, spy plots, treason, courage and suspense. Maybe I enjoyed this novel so much, because history is my "thing", especially American history. The main character of the book, Miss Winter Reeves, is an incredibly intelligent young lady, who pretends to be quite "dumb". But it is only a disguise to help her with her espionage tactics. God has allowed her to be in the right place at the right time per say to conduct business, although her position is not easy for her. She is under much scrutiny and criticism by immediate family and does not feel as though she can be herself. I love the way the author has made conversation with God a priority in Winter's daily life. Winter is portrayed as a prayer warrior with deep faith, and takes all matters to her heavenly Father.  I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be eagerly anticipating the next one in this series.
*I received this book from Harvest House Publishers in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and I am in no way required to review it positively.*

Your Thoughts:
This book not only entertained me but also ministered to me. It encouraged me to take all matters to my Heavenly Father, and reminded me that heroes are every day people who do what they are called to do. I know many who qualify for a nomination of Ordinary Hero, whether just a housewife, mom, dad, or a missionary, pastor, or layman. Each person can be used by God where he or she is.
Who do you know that is an ordinary hero? I would love to hear about them.

I am really looking forward to The Culper Ring Series ~ Book 2 coming in August 2013  Whispers from the Shadows
Her Enemy Is the Only Friend She Can Trust
