Brave Girls Devotional - Better Than Perfect by Tommy Nelson Kids

Better than perfect-that's what every girl is in God's eyes.
A young girl's doubt in her own self-worth starts from an early age. Am I pretty enough? Am I smart enough? Will I fit in? Do people like me? Am I worthy enough? These aren't questions asked by teens, but from precious girls in grade school! Brave Girls Faith and Honor will help girls navigate these questions and learn just how wonderful they are!
In this Brave Girls devotional, 90 engaging devotions will help young girls find their place in the world and learn that the beauty of their imperfections is what makes them unique, loved, precious, and "better than perfect" in God's eyes. Each devotion will include:

  • A relevant opening scripture from the Bible
  • A thought-provoking devotion to build a young girl's spirit
  • An engaging closing prayer to help the reader navigate her day!
I received this devotional through the BookLook Program in exchange for my honest opinion.

My thoughts:
This devotional for girls is very cute. It is broken into six sections -
  1. Truth Detectives
  2. Bible Beauty and Beaus
  3. Divine Design
  4. Body Builders
  5. Character Quest
  6. Mind Games
The first section talks about lies girls believe and the truth in Scripture that counters that lie. The next about growing their inner beauty. The third section focuses more on how amazing God the Creator is and how to enjoy His creation and see Him in it.  Section four covers praying power, using their mental muscles and exercises in encouragement. The Character quest is exactly what its name says - a quest for character. And last but not least the Mind Game section which includes questions, puzzles, and games to grow them spiritually.

Each day begins with a short Scripture verse, then a devotional with a story and explanation of how to apply that verse to our lives, and ends with a prayer pointer.  On some days there are additional things to do such as - questions to answer, something to cook, or an activity to do.

I really enjoyed this devotional and am excited to be able to share it with my daughter. I would say its mostly geared towards younger elementary age girls. I believe most girls will enjoy using it and doing the activities as well as finding things they can apply to their lives.

Personally, the only thing I may have wished different would have been a little more Scripture. Maybe an actual passage to read instead of just one verse, but overall I found it quite appealing.

Comments

  1. Is there one for 12 year old boys?

  2. I am not sure if there is one the same for boys, but I can recommend Focus on the Family's Adventures in Odyssey devotions for kids. My son is going on 10 - a really good reader - and he is really enjoying it.
Also he has read A Boy After God's Own Heart by Jim George ( Harvest House) and A Boy's Guide to Making Good Choices (Harvest House) I have reviewed both of those on the blog.
