This story is set in the early 1900's in the small town of Bridal Veil. This town began as a paper mill and eventually became a lumber and planing mill. Although the story is fiction it is based on true happenings of the times.
I have read several of Miralee's books and I really enjoy her writing. I also enjoy the historical tidbits she adds to her books, whether is it about the towns they are located in or maybe something about the time period. I think, that touch of insight, really helps make the stories realistic as well as educational - for me anyhow with my love for history.
In this book, Margaret Garvey, a school teacher is learning to cope with life after the death of her father. In the intro, we learn that Margaret was in love with Nathaniel, who up and left town without her after they had planned on eloping. She is just moving on with life, as well as getting acquainted with a new fellow - Andrew - when Nathaniel returns. Not only does this complicate matters most dramatically, but also stirs up secrets from the past. Margaret must decide which man would make the husband God wants her to have, and
also whether she can forgive the offenses against her even if they were done with her best interest at heart. The story also includes a small sub-plot in which a couple of runaway orphans show up in town and need to be cared for. I could say alot more but then I would have to give away the story and you would much rather read it for yourself I am sure.
I love how Miralee weaves God through the book. His mercy, grace, and forgiveness as well as His plan for our lives. God can take the unexpected, the broken, the seemingly hopeless situations and turn them out for the best.
He can heal wounds from the past, give new life to shattered dreams, and He offers new beginnings when we learn to trust His perfect will. As she concludes the plot, the ending of the book was a bit unexpected and surprising, but I was pleased with the turnout.

She is also able to combine two other passions—horseback riding and spending time with her grown children—since her married daughter lives nearby, and they often ride together on the wooded trails near their home.
Ironically, Miralee, now the author of eight books, with many more on the way, never had a burning desire to write—at least more than her own memoirs for her children. So she was shocked when God called her to start writing after she turned fifty. To Miralee, writing is a ministry that she hopes will impact hearts, and she anticipates how God will use each of her books to bless and change lives.
