I
am linking up here with the Five Minute Friday community. Once we get our
"word" for the day - we have five minutes to write. No editing, just
what flows from the heart.
Start!
As I read the word last night - GOOD - the first thing that
came to mind was: "That's the perfect word for Good Friday."
The next thing that came to mind was: "Everyone is
going to be writing about Good Friday because it is Good Friday."
So I started thinking of other ideas. The best one I had
was "Oh taste and see that God is Good."
Yet, as I was reading my devotions this morning, I began to
think about the Good News!
Yes - the Good News as the Scriptures tell us is the good
news of Jesus!
So today I am writing about the Good News.
We are told to: ”Go into all the world and
preach the gospel to the whole creation.”
But we can’t do that unless we know what the Gospel is.
It began back in the Genesis
really, when God promised a way for his creation - Adam and Eve - who had
sinned to be redeemed. All the way through the Old Testament the people looked
for the promised Messiah.
Then in the New Testament:
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the
Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:10
Jesus came and lived his perfect life. As He was walking
the earth healing and performing miracles and teaching he was also proclaiming
the Good News of the kingdom. “Jesus went through all the towns and villages,
teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every
disease and sickness.” Matthew 9:35
Then He laid down his life for us. But He did not stay in
the grave instead he rose again so we could overcome life and death through Him!
That is the Good News!
3 For I
passed on to you as most important what I also received:
that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures,
4 that He was buried,
that He was raised on the third day
according to the Scriptures,
according to the Scriptures,
4 that He was buried,
that He was raised on the third day
according to the Scriptures,
I Corinthians 15:3 (HCSB)
And now - His command to us is to do the same –
Share the Good News!
“Day after day, in the temple courts and from house
to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.” Acts 5:42
How
do we accept the Good News? By repenting and believing.
“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of
God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mark 1:15
Sadly ... There are those who will not accept it.
“But not all … accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, ‘Lord, who has
believed our message?’” Romans 10:16
As followers of Christ - Our job remains!!
Spread the Good News of JESUS!!
“… because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to
the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for
the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,” Isaiah 61:1
STOP!
Okay… so it did take me more like seven minutes to write
this post - but my fingers kept getting messed up on the keys. J I already had my
verses picked out ahead of time from my morning devotions, but I did have to do
a little editing of format to get them to look right. – Copying and pasting
doesn’t always work too well for me J
Five minute Friday is a community of bloggers that links up together every Friday after writing for five minutes flat on the prompt that was given Thursday evening.
