Wounded Women of the Bible by Dena Dyer and Tina Samples

Imploding relationships, incapacitating losses, injurious personal mistakes, or spiritual failures—whatever the issue, the wounds are the same. Whether it’s a lapse in judgment by Bathsheba or the moral failure of the women’s ministry leader in your local church; the spiritual insensitivity of Martha or the compulsive obsessions of your church’s care circle chairwoman; the terror of an abandoned single mother like Hagar or the struggling single mother in your prayer group—the time and circumstances are different, but the wounds are equally deep and spiritually devastating. Dena Dyer and Tina Samples get it. They have their own stories of pain before healing—along with similar experiences of their families and friends. Offering more than pat affirmations or vicarious shoulders to cry on, Dena and Tina delve deep into
the shared emotions and injuries that women of all ages have in common—and move readers toward the recovery and healing that only God can provide. No matter what hurts you’ve experienced, Wounded Women of the Bible proves that God understands and that healing is not only His intention but His delight! This is a book not to be missed!

About the Authors:
Dena Dyer
As a busy mom and minister’s wife, Dena Dyer constantly loses things—but she’s holding onto her sanity (barely). Her favorite forms of therapy? Talking and laughing with her sons, date nights with her hubby, reading, cooking, and watching movies. Dena is thankful for her creative life, which is varied and full. That doesn’t mean it’s easy, though.

“Jesus truly is my strength when I am weak,” she says. “His love, mercy, and grace have been incredibly instrumental in my life. That’s why I’m so passionate about sharing Him with other people, however He allows me to.”

In between helping her boys with homework and shuttling kids to art and music lessons, she writes, speaks, and participates in the music and women’s ministries at Lakeside Baptist Church, where her husband serves as the Minister of Worship and Music.

Dena’s publishing credits include the upcoming Kregel release, Wounded Women of the Bible, and 5 other books: Let the Crows’ Feet and Laugh Lines Come!, Mothers of the Bible, two volumes in the Groovy Chicks’ Road Trip series, and Grace for the Race: Meditations for Busy Moms.

Her articles have appeared in Writer’s Digest, Woman’s World, HomeLife and many other magazines, and her tips have been published in Working Mother, Thriving Family, Redbook, Family Circle, Parenting, Nick Jr. and Scholastic Parent. She currently serves as a contributing author and Facebook editor with The High Calling (www.highcalling.org)

I received this book from The Book Club Network and authors in exchange for my honest opinion.

My thoughts:
This is a book every woman should read. Have you been wounded? Maybe you have wounded someone else. Every women young, old, or in between  can benefit from this book in one way or another.

Maybe you have already dealt with your wounds. I think this book is also a great resource to use to help others. I certainly wish I could get my hands on a crate of these books to pass out to women I know who could use it.

There were so many quotes in this book I loved, and wanted to share.
One of them was this:
"Love - whether reciprocated or not is never wasted because God is love!"
How amazing is that.
"No matter how you're treated, someone else negativity has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them."

Tina and Dena both share some deeply moving stories of incidents that occurred in their lives. They also use many women from the Bible as examples . They cover  categories ranging from depression, infertility, abuse, grief, and betrayal to gratitude, blessedness, adoration and hope for shattered hearts. They share a multitude of scripture and women's stories to give much food for thought. Some of the women mentioned may be women you have heard of, others may be someone new - Abigail, Jochabed, Hagar, Dinah, Jephthah's Daughter to name a few. They offer healing and hope to women who have suffered. That woman may be you, or may be someone you know.

I highly recommend this book!  It is such an encouragement to women. There is even a study guide at the end.

My Body's Mine helps children learn they have the rights to their body. Told through rhyme from a child's point of view this book on boundaries empowers each child to say no when others approach them in ways that make them uncomfortable. It also gives clear instructions on what to do if they are approached in an unwanted manner. The questions at the end of the book provides an easy transition for counselors and parents to open a discussion to prevent abuse or to further explore if abuse has occurred.

A Challenging Perspective on Hospitality

This book! Wow! What can I say? It's radical, convicting, and pushes you to live completely out of your comfort zone for the sake of the GOSPEL! Rosaria's personal story is a story of Grace - God's grace and a life transformed by the Gospel. She inspires us to practice true hospitality like the Bible commands. She talks about the importance of hospitality, how to use hospitality to share Jesus and the Gospel, and how our lives and those of others should be changed by it. She invites us to reach out, invite in, and love people of all different backgrounds, even those who don't particularly agree with us in lifestyle or otherwise. She propels us to love the sinner, while not condoning the sin. Hospitality - open arms, open table, a welcome to all.  I wish I could put into words how this book inspired me to take a good look at my own life and how I practice hospitality. It made me re-evaluate what I might think hospitality looks like and how to apply it to real life in c
