My One Word for 2017

CONFIDENCE
Isaiah 30:15
For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; in returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

For several years now, I have been inspired to choose a word for my year. I usually begin sometime in November or early December thinking and praying. In previous years I have chosen words such as - Meekness, Delight, Focus, Intentional. This year I had several words in mind, but God brought a particular one to the top of my list. He also confirmed it various times, and even provided a song for the verse I chose that I had never even heard before. SO this year my word is CONFIDENCE, not in myself per say, but in the God who is all in all, and in whom I am what I am.

I am going to focus this year on returning and resting, quietness and confidence. Trusting in the Lord! I also am hoping to put more effort into taking time for rest and celebration of the Lord's day as holy unto Him. God is really convicting me in that area in my life and my family's habits. We are regular church goers, but there is so much more to it than that. I want to restore our focus on God, taking time apart to rest from regular activities, and really concentrate on what matters, the Creator, enjoying His creation, time with family, friends, etc... Taking a break from outside influences at least one day away, breaking free from things that can easily become idols.

Do I know how I am going to do this yet? No, honestly I don't. I am open to ideas and suggestions. I have been reading several blog articles on the subject of keeping a Sabbath. I know there are not specific rules and regulations. I believe that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and we are not required to keep the law. I want to do this because I want to honor the One who gave His life for me, because I love Him.

Does your family set apart a day for worship, for rest? What kinds of traditions or things have you developed to help you enjoy the day, rest, and yet keep it holy? How do you get your children involved?

And if you have a word for the year, I would love to hear what it is.

  1. Thanks Becky! I am excited about this concept and a little "afraid" of where it will take me and whether I my family will jump in with both feet or be standoffish at the idea.
But my confidence is in Him and He has laid it on my heart to pursue.
