My Take:
I enjoyed this book tremendously. I had never read any books by Elizabeth prior to this one, so I was so glad to find another author that I like.
The main character, Lucy, was headstrong and determined, and yet I found it so awesome that she learned a valuable life lesson in the end. She learned to treasure each day, and enjoy it; to find joy in the simple things, and that sometimes, the fight is not really worth it. The ending brought much satisfaction, although was a bit unexpected.
I also enjoyed, Colin's character too. Although at times, he seemed a bit of a jerk, then he was a hero. It kind of fluctuated, but I liked the way the author drew me in with that. I was really hoping for the best to come out in him. I think he too learned a valuable lesson about life.
Nick was another one of my favorite characters too!
Of course there were plenty of those you would love to hate, especially for me was the psychotic doctor... He still gives me the Heebie-jeebies, and makes my skin crawl a bit. Getting locked up in a mental institution is not my version of fun.
Overall, this book is an enjoyable read; mysterious, with an element of faith, a little romance, some humor, and I even learned some pretty neat stuff about news and telegraphs.
I received a copy of this book from Bethany house. I was not asked or required to review positively. All opinions are my own.
