From debut author Abigail Wilson comes a mysterious Regency tale of secrets and spies, love and treachery.
Orphaned Sybil Delafield jumps at the opportunity for a position at the mysterious Croft Towers. She believes she was hired to act as companion to a dying woman, but a highway robbery and a hostile welcome from the Chalcroft family cause her to wonder if she was actually hired to help someone spy for France.
An unsolved murder adds intrigue to this already secretive family, and Sybil recognizes Mrs. Chalcroft's handsome godson as one of the infamous highwaymen who robbed her. Sybil must determine if this man's charming smile and earnest eyes speak the truth or if he is simply using her like others in the house. Everyone seems to have something to hide, and Sybil must decide who to trust while also coming to terms with the truth about her own past.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed the mystery and suspense in this book. I was caught up into the plot from the first chapter. The setting including croft towers was intriguing. Being one who doesn't much like secrets myself, unless it's Christmas, I was able to relate to Sybil from the start. The secrets captivated me and kept me curious and reading. I wanted everything out in the open! It was hard to put down.
I enjoyed Sybil's character although at times she was a bit daft. I also liked the character of Mrs. Chalcroft's godson. He was mysterious and intriguing. His character kept you on the edge of your seat, hoping for the best and expecting the worse. There were various twists and turns to the story, that will keep you turning pages.
Mrs. Chalcroft was in a class all her own - wild mentally ill woman or sane? To be determined when you read your copy!
The setting was also pretty captivating, old world, castles, towers, mysteries to be solved - you won't be able to resist this one. I think if you like a mystery, a bit of suspense, some historical Regency Era, with some romance, then you will enjoy this!
Abigail is a first time author for me. I am thrilled to be finding her. I certainly look forward to seeing what else she has to offer.
