When Jesus Wept by Bodie and Brock Thoene - Review

Lazarus - the man Jesus raised from the dead in one of the most extraordinary encounters with The Living Saviour in all Scripture. But the life of Lazarus holds interest well beyond this miraculous event. Living in Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus witnessed many of the most important events of Jesus's life and ministry. Lazarus owned a vineyard and devoted his life to caring for its vines and fruit. But when he encountered another man - Jesus- whose vineyard was the world, its fruit the eternal souls of men; Lazarus was changed. When Lazarus's story and the story of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection touch in When Jesus Wept , we are offered a unique vision into the power and comfort of Christ's love.

Combatting Darkness with THE LIGHT

This book is a biblical fiction set in Ephesus during the time of Paul. I have always enjoyed history, when its mixed with Bible even better. Tracy makes it come alive. The way she describes the places, and people of Ephesus , you feel like you are there watching the story unfold. With a a biblical fiction, I like to go back to the bible and read the story or passage again and compare it with what the author has to say. Here is a video of Tracy in Ephesus:   Ephesus was a place full of darkness and evil. Sorcerers practiced openly and freely, and many people were possessed.  The temples of the false gods and goddesses lined the city. Daria is fleeing a past that haunts her, but her new life is not much better. The same things that haunted her then seem to be infiltrating Ephesus too. Daria is working as a tutor employed by Lucas, a local wealthy business man with a secret in his past also. She sees where he is headed, but is not sure if s...

Just Like Jesus Devotional

God wants to give you a heart just like JESUS. He is pure. We are greedy. He is peaceful. We are hassled.  He is purposeful. We are distracted . He is pleasant. We are cranky . He is spiritual. We are earthbound. The distance between our hearts and his seems so immense. How could we ever hope to have the heart of Jesus? Yet incredibly, this is what God promises... TO GIVE US A HEART LIKE HIS.

Do You Live... Like Heaven Changes Everything?

Todd and Sonja Burpo authors of the book Heaven is for Real , have released this new book Heaven Changes Everything. What if we lived every day in light of eternity? Would we live differently? What priorities would change? In their newest book the Burpo's are encouraging their readers to "live every day with eternity in mind". Each chapter is a short reading recalling excerpts from their first book and how those thoughts affected them and the way they lived. It is a devotional type reader, with short chapters that could be read as a thought a day.  This book is a great reminder that we are here for a greater purpose than just our everyday life and its challenges. So many times we allow material things to take precedence over spiritual, until we end up living discouraged depressed lives instead of the abundant life God has for us. His plan is so much greater, that we need to put on our spiritual goggles and live in light of eternity! This book ...

Soul's Gate by James L Rubart - Review

What if you could travel inside another person's soul... To battle for them. To be part of Jesus healing their deepest wounds. To help set them free. To step boldly into their divinely designed future. Thirty years ago that's exactly what Reece Roth did. Until tragedy shattered his life and ripped away his future. Now God has drawn Reece out of the shadows to fulfill a prophecy spoken over him three decades ago. A prophecy about four warriors with the potential to change the world... if Reece will face his deepest regret and teach them what he has learned. This book is intense! I was hooked from the start. Of course it is only fiction, Yes, and some of it, is a little "far-fetched", but very catchy. Do we tap into our power through Jesus as much as we are able? The author certainly gives the reader much to think about. This book made an impression on me, as I too, like the characters in the book have lived a life of regrets, feelings of worthlessness, and other e...

A Story of Forgiveness, and Healing

This story begins as two men  acquaint themselves during a layover at the airport. One man is intrigued by the other man's tale, a story of his life. Gabriel, world traveler, white water rafter and lover of The River, was dealt a tragic hand by The River at the young age of five. It takes years for him to conquer his fears, return to The River and find healing and a new life. This is a very captivating story and uses the analogy of The River as a reference to God (as far as I could understand). The characters were easy to follow and the ending has an unexpected twist. I really enjoyed the book, and am sure most that read this book will enjoy it also.  The story itself is very good.  At the same time, I was a little disillusioned, maybe I was looking too deep. Throughout the book, It seemed like it was leading up to a climax, in which the author would then reveal how, The River, was a reference to God and healing for our emotional pain comes from G...

Four Women...A Century... and A Connection

"The story of four lovable women, miraculously bound by one gown, whose lives span a century... will take your breath away."  ~Beth Webb Hart This is a great book. A very intriguing account of various women's lives, and how they are interwoven because of a dress. Charlotte is a bridal boutique owner and finally preparing for her own wedding, but should she be? For some reason she cannot seem to find the perfect dress or even be at peace as to whether she should marry Tim. She finds a vintage dress at an estate sale and curiosity gets the best of her. She delves into a search for the history of the dress's previous  owners. Through it she learns a lot about courage, faith, redemption, and timeless true love. Sometimes we just have to take a step of faith and go with our gut. You will not want to put this down until you find out the story behind the dress. I like what the author Rachel Hauck says about the wedding dress. She compares it to the Gospel of Jesus. I...

Me - Common? No Way!

Hermie - A Common Caterpillar By Max Lucado My kids love Hermie books, DVDs, movies, and so do I. He has such practical life lessons for our kiddos to learn from.  Max Lucado has a great way of using common insects in a very uncommon way.  Hermie teaches our kids that God has created us anything but common. We are special to Him and He is not finished with us yet.  As you read through this book Hermie encounters numerous insects he would like to be like, and asks God over and over why he is such a common caterpillar.  But God continues to remind him  that He has big plans for his life, and isn't finished with him.  In the end, he finds out what God created him to be.  What a great way to illustrate to our children how God created them each differently for His own special purpose, and He isn't finished with them yet.  This book seems to be written in an easy to read style for younger readers. My children are still too y...
