In Sickness and In Health by David Hawkins

During his more than 30 years of counseling, Dr. David Hawkins has witnessed many patients who describe to him intense physical ailments—from weight loss or gain, to elevated blood pressure, to the development of autoimmune disorders—all stemming from a common problem: the stress of living in a marriage that has become toxic. In his latest book,  In Sickness and In Health: The Physical Consequences of Emotional Stress in Marriage , Dr. Hawkins, explores with his two sons—an internist and a surgeon, the effects relational stress and trauma can have on our bodies. “When stress hormones get out of whack, signaling the brain there is lurking danger, we either change our world and cope effectively,” says Dr. Hawkins, “or experience debilitating health problems.”

OVERwhelmed by Kathi Lipp and Cheri Gregory

OVERWHELMED!!! Does that resemble how you feel more often than not? If so, this book IS FOR YOU!!  I cannot say enough good things about this book. It is incredible! Discover what contributes and triggers your overwhelm, how to handle it, and how to restore your sanity. I went through this book reading several chapters a week. Personally, I was able to identify with so much in the book it was amazing! Kathi and Cheri both share the chapters, focusing on personal experiences and what has worked for them. Everyone's overwhelm is different and they cover it all! I love the fact that Kathi doesn't claim to have all the answers, or that her way is the right way, instead, she gives suggestions, encouragement and support for each individual to discover themselves and what works for them.

But as girls are growing, changing, and making choices about the kinds of lives they will lead, they are bombarded with conflicting messages about what it means to be a woman. The media says one thing, boys say another, and friends seem obsessed with whatever is newest and coolest. As a result, girls too often hand their decisions over to those least qualified to make them.

How to Deal with difficult Relationships

Counseling Through the Bible Series by June Hunt In the school of life, the Bible is our textbook for learning... and relationships are our "lab" for living. Relationships provide daily opportunities to live out what we believe about life and love, and force us to put theory into practice. God wants us to enjoy relationships filled with trust, purpose, and peace. But too often, relationships are damaged because of criticism, manipulation, and other destructive behaviours. Thankfully, the Bible abounds with guidance on how to bridge broken relationships in order to build healthy ones. This is a how-to handbook filled with restoration, healing, and hope. My thoughts: This book has been a big help!  I think most people, (I know I have) have dealt with people who are critics and manipulators. Sometimes when this occurs repeatedly, it is difficult to know how to act or react for that matter. Myself, I am usually looking for Scriptural ways to respond, but at times it ...

Just The "Stuff" I Needed to Know

In today's world... bringing up children can be scary! Is there hope? Can I raise a godly child? How do I keep them "good"? This book was just what I needed!  With a son who is seven going on eight... I am looking for some serious HELP!! I only have one boy, but he certainly thinks and acts completely different then my girls. Dannah Gresh covers all things related to boys in her book. Subjects I am not even comfortable talking about (LOL) but obviously need to learn about to be able to relate to this little man I am raising. She talks about our fears as moms, our boy's need to connect, the best age(s) to connect to them. She deals with testosterone, puberty, and how their brains work. The first part of the book is on connecting about how to connect to them, the second part deals with the six ways to keep them "good". This is a must read for both mom and dad although the book is geared mostly to mom's.  Dannah's husband has added quite a fe...
