WHAT DOES GOD LOOK LIKE?

Welcome to southeast Michigan and the small town of Carlson where faith, hope, and struggle are defined by the different faces of those who live there. An addict that sits at a bar to forget. A mother whose five-year-old boy has leukemia. Two doctors. An atheist haunted by his past and a brilliant young oncologist that places all her hope in the power of modern medicine. A blind pastor whose son hasn't spoken a single word in thirty-eight years.  But the minister sees by faith. He knows there are answers and believes that someone who cares is watching... someone with a greater purpose. Yet there is something he doesn't know... that none of them know. In the midst of the ordinary and the devastating, there is a reason these lives will be changed forever. Lightning is about to strike.

Faith of a Father by Frank Barbehenn

Although very good, this book took me a while to read. Frank shares the story of his journey to finding true faith written as a letter to his daughter. It is detailed and personal. Frank analyzes his life from a psychological point of view from childhood to adulthood. He details the events and people that impacted his life and influenced the person he has become today. Although Frank grew up in a pretty dysfunctional home life, he still speaks highly of his parents and brings to light their positive traits and reinforces their strengths. He talks in length about how those ideals have stuck with him, as well as, how the negative way his parents related to him as a child affects how he relates to people today. He shares his disappointment in the Catholic church and the questions that led him to desire to know truth. His journey to faith is a compelling and interesting one.

Touchdown Tommy by Ace Collins

This book is a story of a young man who lived in the big city of Chicago. His life is going along just fine, such as any normal high school kid's would go. He was involved in school, sports, and had a pretty ideal family life. Then tragedy hits and he looses his parents in an accident. His whole life is turned upside down. He ends up moving to a small rural community in Texas and really struggles to fit in and get a grip on life again. Thankfully a coach there helps him gain the confidence he needs again to succeed.  Ace Collins writes about new beginnings, facing challenges, developing friendships, and getting through hard times. I enjoyed reading this book even though I am not really a football fan so a lot of the sports stuff was kind of not

Hebrew Word Study - Revealing the Heart of God

As an instructor in both ancient Hebrew and Aramaic, Chaim Bentorah is convinced that there are powerful truths buried in the original language of God's Word that most Christians have never been exposed to. The Word of God is like the heart of God: it is a well that never runs dry .  In this book, you will discover things about God and your relationship with Him that you may never have considered. By delving into the multiple layers and nuances of the ancient Hebrew language, you will discover that God is revealing His heart to you through the depths of His Word in new and exciting ways.  Hebrew is a language of poetry and pictures. With Bentorah's expertise, you will see how to examine not just word definitions, but also the origin of the words, their place in the culture and idioms of the day, and even their emotional context. Through this devotional, you will walk the road less

Family Prayer Made Easy by Teresa J. Herbic

I am excited about this devotional and eager to begin using it with my family. It contains ten specific devotions on prayer. These begin with praying for your family, then moves on to friends, your church, schools and teachers, our nation and also includes personal problems such as sickness and grief. Each devotional begins with a quick prayer and a verse, then a short story. Teresa incorporates questions, a prayer and Scriptures about the topic at hand. At the closing of each lesson there are interactive prayer or service activities to do with your family. These may consist of something as simple as writing prayer requests on a paper and keeping

Awaken by Terry Nance

This book is written as a series of letters to the younger generation, although personally, I feel many generations would glean from reading the content of this book.  Terry uses his personal stories and experiences to encourage this generation to step up to the plate and become all God wants them to be. Each chapter(letter) is thematic and Terry addresses such subjects as Prayer, Sacrifice, Service, Submission, Authority (the use and misuse of it), and so much more. Terry calls this generation to step out and become armor bearers, to follow their dreams, but also to support their leaders; to be a generation of action, not just talk. He stresses the importance of a healthy prayer life, humility, knowledge of the Word, recognizing God's voice and waiting on His perfect timing.

Chapel Springs Survival by Ane Mulligan

I enjoyed reading this book by Ann Mulligan. It was my first book ever by her and I was quickly caught up in the characters and their small town lives. One of the main characters, Claire, is usually getting herself into some kind of mess. She owns a pottery shop in town and is a gifted artist. She has apparently (in a previous book) helped expand tourism to the small town of Chapel Springs. And although, the tourism is good for business it is also causing a bit of disturbance in the everyday living conditions of the small town. Traffic is congested and even after the season is over, things don't seem to return to normal. Claire, who is on the city council gets most of the blame. She and her friends are trying hard to come up with a solution without changing the small town feel or bankrupting the city.

Fast Freddy by Lee Ann Mancini (Children's Book)

Multiple award-winning book series helps to build a strong, foundational relationship with Jesus, while teaching love, and compassion for others! He comes from behind overcoming Marcus who is a formidable threat on team Barracudas. His octopus arms wave in victory as he crosses the finish line! Freddy receives the MVP award, but says a prayer of thanks to Jesus for being different and having new friends.    Lee Ann Mancini and Dan Sharp have created an underwater world that explodes with color, drawing the children into the captivating story.

Plus, their investigative styles couldn’t be more opposite: he operates on instinct, while she goes by the book. When hot leads soon fizzle out, their differences threaten to leave them deadlocked. Messed Up Men of the Bible by Tina and David Samples

Seeing the Men in Your Life Through God's Eyes From schlubby sitcom heroes to mommy blogs to online articles, there is a broad cultural perception that men constantly mess up and women must fight an uphill battle to fix them. Men are a burden, constant works-in-progress, pushed toward perfection but always falling short. This book asks a revolutionary question: What if these messed-up men are actually a mighty tool for God?  Tina and Dave Samples remind us that the Bible is filled with a cast of messed-up men : men who struggled and fell, and yet were used by God to accomplish His purposes. In fact, God has consistently chosen imperfect “clay pots” in which to place His light.  David was a poor father. Peter had problems with integrity. Moses had anger

Beautifully Prepared by Monica Schaefer

The author in this book reflects on the luster of her life filled with wonderful success yet tarnished with feelings of emptiness and sorrow. Many women know this life. We appear good, whole, and complete on the outside while sadness fills the depths of the heart on the inside. We often wonder if we will ever experience complete happiness, joy, or peace in our lifetime. Our soul cries out in anguish. When we are younger, we take on a barrage of messages, many of which are lies when applied toward the truth of our identity.  Monica Schaefer reflects on how a lie twisted her purpose and identity for over 35 years until a crisis required her to face the lie, her shame, and self-hatred. The journey brought her to the life of Eve and a woman known in the Bible as “the Bride” in the book of Revelation. The mix of written reflections, contemporary portraits and scriptures relays a

The Peaceful Wife by April Cassidy

What happens when a woman becomes the wife God desires her to be? In today's world, women are often rewarded for having type A personalities. Driven, demanding women achieve higher positions, better salaries, and praise for their ambition. They learn to be confident, take-charge leaders who can handle anything on their own. Yet when it comes to their marriages, those same traits can backfire. After all, no one goes into marriage hoping for a promotion. What is a wife to do? April Cassidy knows this struggle firsthand. She thought she was a great Christian wife and begged God to make her passive husband into a more loving, involved, godly leader. Instead, God opened her eyes to changes that she needed to make, such as laying down her desire for control and offering genuine, unconditional respect —not just love —to her husband. The Peaceful Wife focuses on Cassidy's experience and its life-changing properties, providing a template for others to follow.
