Is There Any Such Thing As A Good Ghost

“Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the Lord your God."      Leviticus 19:31

Corrie Saunders husband Jarrod plays the hero and sacrifices his life in Iraq. Corrie gave up everything for her hero husband, never expecting to spend her life alone. Six months after his death, Corrie moves back to the family home her husband inherited. She still has not figured out how she will live without him, and is hoping in some way to reconnect with him by returning to his childhood home. Even the very first night Corrie seems to sense Jarrod's presence in her home. Has he come back to be with her?  Unbeknown to her, this house had a history, an eerie one at that. Corrie was brought up in church but had not had a very personal relationship with God since she was a child. Jarrod's cousin, Eli, a handy man/preacher who is remodeling her home suggests the presence may not be Jarrod, but instead evil manifesting itself as Jarrod.  Corrie is struggling with her loss, her beliefs, and her desire for her husband. Will she give in to her desires and accept the presence or will she seek out the only One who will truly never leave her?

My Opinion:
This book was deep, mysterious, fun and edgy.  Do you believe in ghosts, spirits, or the presence of people who have gone before. Although to some it may seem ridiculous to others it is serious business. How should we as Christians deal with this?  Do we believe that demons can impersonate people, what do we believe about the after life? How do we treat people who may be mediums or psychics? I really thought the author, Tracey Bateman, did an amazing job with this in relation to what the Bible says. She addresses how to love people and yet not condone their behavior. She used the verse in Ephesians that says: "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Even though this book is fiction, the events portrayed are not so far-fetched. It is very possible to one day encounter these happenings if we have not already encountered them. The question is: Will we be prepared to deal with the situation in a way that honors God?
