IMAGINE... The Great Flood by Matt Koceich

IMAGINE...
The ocean swirled around the boy and pulled him down with unrelenting power. Heavy water churned and tugged at his flailing body like unseen hands yanking him into the watery depths. The fight was finally over. Even though he’d tried to stand up to the enemy, the waves were about to swallow him whole.

The last thing ten-year-old Corey remembers (before the world as he knew it disappeared) was the searing pain in his head after falling while chasing his dog Molly into the woods. What happens next can't be explained as Corey wakes up and finds himself face-to-face with not one but two lions!

Join Corey and experience the excitement. . .the wonder. . . the adventure. . .as the epic story of Noah’s ark comes to life.

Imagine. . .The Great Flood is the first release in an exciting, brand-new epic adventure series for kids ages 8 to 12 written by schoolteacher and missionary, Matt Koceich. The Imagine series brings the Bible to life for today's kids as they ponder what it would be like to live through a monumental biblical event.

About the Author:

Matt Koceich is a husband, father, and public school teacher. Matt and his family live in Texas.

My Take:
A quick read for  any 8-12 year old, inspiring them to trust God in spite of tough circumstances. A young boy, Corey is struggling with the fact that his family is moving. He doesn't understand God's ways. While playing in the park on day, he takes a fall, which transports him back in time a few thousand years to Noah's time. While there, he meets Noah and sons, helps herd the wild animals toward the ark, and ends up chased by giants - the Nephilims. Corey learns a very important lesson from his experience with Noah and his family.

I have to say the story was interesting enough and kept my attention, although the author certainly took liberties with his Biblical account. The Bible talks about Nephilim, but doesn't say they hindered the animals from entering the ark although it does say the people did every kind of evil thing imaginable. It spurred me to re-read the Genesis account of Noah and the ark, to get the facts straight. I would recommend having the child do the same and being sure they understand the  author is using his imagination to come up with a story based on what he thinks it would've been like. That the story is fictional, though based on a true event.

The principle to be learned in this story: God's plans are good even when we don't understand them. He is always with us and we can trust Him to take care of things. The author did a great job on that. I am sure kids might enjoy this book more than I did.
