The Marvelous Mud House

A story of finding fullness and joy

Ben and his American family live in a hungry ranch house where they are always wanting more. But then they travel far across the world to Kenya and visit the marvelous mud house where George and Mama George live. There, among the mango trees, they discover a marvelous lesson about what it's like to be full of joy instead.

My Take:
Ironically, the day I received this book, I had just mentioned to a friend, how I wished it would be possible to take my children to a third world country and how I felt it would help them become a little more grateful.

As I read this book, so much resonated with me. I grew up on the mission field, so I have seen true poverty. It makes me sad when my children, and I even catch myself at times, complain about not having enough, when we are truly so blessed.

This story is told beautifully and the illustrations are bold and eye catching. I loved it. I loved the description of the homes - the hungry ranch house and the marvelous hut. And the song that George's mom sang was so pretty. I made up my own little tune to it as I read. It teaches the importance of being grateful and using what God has given us - whether time, talent, or things to help others. It's eye-opening!

This is a story that should be read in all homes. I highly recommend it.  I can't wait to read it to my kids. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the perfect seasons for reading this.

I was blessed with a copy of this book courtesy of B&H bloggers and Lifeway. I was not asked to review positively and all opinions are my own.
