And then, the miraculous happens. Her sister-in-law Susan, a Martha Stewart-in-training, lands the chance to participate in a reality TV series about trying to live like the Amish and needs another family to join her. It's just the break Julie needs.  But the summer adventure in simple living soon proves anything but simple. With the camera watching every move, Susan's drive for perfection feels a lot like what they left behind, while Julie suddenly finds herself needing to stand up for slowing down. This is a very thought provoking fictional story. It is easy to be sick of our lives, tired of the monot

Are You Looking for a Quick Fix?

If so... This book is not for you. : ) Sacred Marriage is about a covenant with God and spouse. Marriage was designed by God to be an example of his covenant with his people. Is your marriage trying? Are you struggling to keep it together? Are you tired of reading books that suggest quick fixes, "Do-more's", or "Be-more's"? This book is not exactly about those ideals. It is about building your relationship with God. What if God did not create marriage to be your "happily-ever-after"? Instead he created it to bring about holiness and a closer walk with Him.  This author has much to offer to help your marriage. If nothing else... it will begin a change in YOU! And that, my friend, is the best and only place to start. I can't say this book is a quick, easy read. But it is certainly worth the read if you desire to see marriage in a different light. It is packed full of valuable information. As I get older, I am realizing that achieving "

Lots of Good Info on Prayer

" Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence." Ephesians 3:12 NLT Do you ever wonder if there is a perfect way to pray that actually gets God's attention?  Have you ever prayed and prayed, but felt like the answer never came? Is God really listening? When should you pray? What should you pray about? And where should you pray? This little book is short, but full of nuggets from God's Word on prayer. Chapters include how to approach God's throne, key prayer ingredients and what Jesus taught on prayer. It is loaded with Scripture on subjects such as: prayers for guidance, forgiveness, protection, and healing, and times of hardship. It also shares many prayers from people in all circles of life: housewives, kings, prophets, apostles, early believers and Jesus himself. One thing I did notice in this book is that the author uses many different Bible translations to get his point across. If you are l

Do Our Teens Know REAL Courage?

"You have withing you the capacity for something God-sized, Something so big that God is glorified through your life." In a world full of peer pressure and teens who are doing anything just to fit in, this book is a call for our teens to live courageously by faith, instead of succumbing to the world.  They are called to be separate and stand out; to follow the examples of Biblical heroes. Rather than attempting to copy the celebrities of our day whose God is this world. Some examples the author gave were: Daniel-  a teen in a foreign culture who took a stand for his faith and refused to compromise his beliefs no matter what the cost. Esther-  also a teen in a worldly culture, surrounded by people who did not share her faith and unequally yoked, yet she took a stand for God's people. The author addresses: Courageous Faith Courageous Leadership Courageous Priorities Courageous Influence Then concludes with a challenge for teens. We Need You! "Anyon

Where Does Peace Come From?

Satan plays mind games with us: worry, doubt, fear.... He can take our peace away by just capturing our thoughts. God's Word tells us to keep our minds focused on HIM.  He is the only One who can bring perfect peace no matter what our circumstances hold. Filling our minds with His promises and His Word drives away fears, doubts, and worries. His promises are true. He cannot lie. FOCUS on JESUS

Is There Any Such Thing As A Good Ghost

“Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the Lord your God."      Leviticus 19:31 Corrie Saunders husband Jarrod plays the hero and sacrifices his life in Iraq. Corrie gave up everything for her hero husband, never expecting to spend her life alone. Six months after his death, Corrie moves back to the family home her husband inherited. She still has not figured out how she will live without him, and is hoping in some way to reconnect with him by returning to his childhood home. Even the very first night Corrie seems to sense Jarrod's presence in her home. Has he come back to be with her?  Unbeknown to her, this house had a history, an eerie one at that. Corrie was brought up in church but had not had a very personal relationship with God since she was a child. Jarrod's cousin, Eli, a handy man/preacher who is remodeling her home suggests the presence may not be Jarrod, but instead evil manifesting itself as J

Pleasant Words

For school this week we are talking about our WORDS.  Using two spoons, one with honey and one with garbage as an example, I asked, "Which one do you want to eat?"  Of course, no one wants to eat the garbage, but the honey is sweet and pleasant.  God's Word says when we use pleasant words we bring healing to others.  What kind of words do YOU like to hear? What kind of words do OTHER PEOPLE like to hear? What kind of words does GOD want us to use? Let's be an encouragement to one another.
